Breakout Events is excited to announce that legendary Scottish Pop Rock band\, Deac on Blue will be heading to South Africa for the first time in February 202 4.
Ricky Ross is thrilled to embark on Deacon B lue’s debut tour of South Africa early next year\, saying “We are excited to announce our first-eve r shows in South Africa\, it’s a country that we have wanted to get to f or many years and these shows\, both outdoors in beautiful parks\, will be really special.”
Thirty-five years since their de but single\, Dignity\, and millions o f record sales since\, Deacon Blue are digging out all their old 45s – t he Top 10s\, the favourites\, the sing-a-long rarities – and touring Sou th Africa for the first time in February 2024. The band has always thrived onstage and will entrain local crowds with a selection of their hits.
Ross\, co-vocalist Lorraine McIntosh\, Dougie Vipond (drums) \, Jim Prime (keyboards)\, Gregor Philp (guitar)\, and Lewis Gordon (bass) will perform well-loved songs like Dignity\, Loaded\, Wages Day\, Real Gone Kid\, I’ll Never Fall In Love Again\, Your Swaying Arms\, Twist & Shout\, Your Town\, The Hipsters and City Of Love. And so many more.
*Scotland’s multi-platinum pop/rockers D eacon Blue emerged from the aftermath of the post-punk era to hit the main stream during the mid-’80s\, and after five years away during the ’90s \, they returned in the 21st century. Their clean\, euphoric sound winds t he lead vocals of husband-and-wife team Ricky Ross and Lorraine McIntosh across infectious hooks and sweeping melod ies in a sophisticated meld of rock\, pop\, jazz\, blues\, Celtic soul\, a nd folk music. Their debut album\, 1987’s Raintown\, attained platinum status and spent a year and a half on the charts. Their second\, When the World Knows Your Name\, topped the U.K. album charts and went multi-platinum inside of a month. Subsequent ou tings\, including 1991’s Fellow Hoodlums\, and 1993’s Whatever You Say\, Say Nothing were also cer tified best-sellers and registered longstanding Top Five chart entries. Th e group split in 1994 but returned to touring in 1999. 2001’s Homesick marked their part-time retur n to recording\, and the band continued to exist for a few years on a part -time basis as Ross cut solo o utings and wrote for other artists. In 2012 Deacon Blue issued The Hipsters. It rocketed to number two and signaled their full-time return to recording and touring. While 2 014’s A New House and 2016’s Believers both we nt Top Five\, 2020’s City of Love topped the charts.
